Gas production from the "Absheron" gas field in the Caspian Sea was discussed on May 11 in Baku by Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and "Total Energies" President for Exploration and Production Nicolas Terraz.
"The issue of starting production in the coming months from the "Absheron" gas field in the Caspian Sea was discussed," the President's website reported.
In turn, Terraz pointed out that "Total Energies" is interested in continuing cooperation with Azerbaijan and emphasized the company's intention to expand its activities in the country.
"During the meeting there was also an exchange of views on cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources," the information said.
Note that the first gas from "Absheron" will be received in early July 2023, an informed source told Turan.
Earlier it was about June, however, the deadline was pushed back. This year the field will be able to produce up to 0.7 billion cubic meters of gas, the "blue fuel" will go to the balance of Azerbaijan.
"Absheron" field is developed by the joint "Absheron Petroleum Operating Company" (APOC) established by "SOCAR Absheron" (50%) and "TOTAL E&P Absheron" (50%). The contract is signed for 30 years. The contract area is 747 square kilometres.
It ought to be noted that the Absheron block is located 100 km from Baku at a depth of 500 meters. In 2019, "SOCAR" and "TOTAL" completed the drilling of the production and appraisal well "ABD-001" with a depth of 7411 metres in the Absheron field. The field has reserves of 350-360 billion cubic metres of gas and 100 million tonnes of condensate and will be developed in phases.
The first phase will produce 1.5 billion cubic metres per year. At its peak, the project could produce around 5 billion cubic metres of gas per year. The field will also produce about 10,000 barrels of condensate daily.
