The Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan met with local and foreign journalists in Ashgabat. The diplomat told the media representatives about the results of the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Turkey for 2021. According to him, the bilateral trade over the 11 months of the year grew, despite the pandemic, and exceeded 1 billion 900 million US dollars.
The Ambassador noted that the use of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, the importance of which increased during the pandemic, contributed to the increase in the volume of mutual trade, and noted its great potential for increasing cargo flows in the region.
The diplomat spoke about the high-level visits between Turkmenistan and Turkey held last year, describing their results and the progress of bilateral agreements. Among the important events of the past year, he named the exchange of visits of heads of state. In particular, the visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Istanbul in November, when Turkmenistan became an observer in the Organization of Turkic States, and the return visit to Ashgabat by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Answering journalists' questions, the Turkish plenipotentiary highly appreciated the policy of Turkmenistan towards neighboring Afghanistan and the humanitarian assistance provided by Ashgabat to the Afghan people. According to Togan Oral, Turkmenistan and Turkey have a similar vision of approaches to resolving issues of normalizing the situation in Afghanistan.
