The Central Bank reported that there are almost 860,000 Internet Bank users in Turkmenistan. For 5 months they transferred only AZN 521,000

As of June 1, the number of registered users of the Internet banking service in Turkmenistan reached 859,233 people, Trend reports with reference to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.

According to the bank, the leader in terms of the number of registered users of this service is the state-owned commercial Daikhanbank (318.3 thousand people). Since the bank mainly works with clients in the regions of Turkmenistan, most of the users are located in the Mary (125.5 thousand), Lebap (73.4 thousand) and Dashoguz (48.5 thousand) regions.

Bank "Turkmenistan" (261.3 thousand users) is in second place, and Bank "Turkmenbashi" (159.3 thousand users) is in third place.

A little over a year ago, MasterCard announced that as of February 1, 2021, the number of subscribers connected to the Internet banking service is 634,000 people. Probably, this data included only users of MasterCard's own payment system.

Meanwhile, a few days ago it became known that the total amount of non-cash payments in Turkmenistan from January to May this year amounted to almost 5 billion manats.

Of these, as reported by the Business of Turkmenistan publication, citing data from the Central Bank, the E-commerce, Mobile Bank and Internet Bank systems accounted for a total of just over 230 million manats, and separately for the Internet bank" - only 521,000 manats. What is the difference between these systems is not specified.

If in both cases the Central Bank speaks of the same Internet Banking system, then it turns out that in the first five months of this year, each registered user transferred an average of 0.6 manats through it. Obviously, the Internet Bank is not popular, and most of the registered users are, in fact, “dead souls”.
