In the conference hall of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, a solemn ceremony of presenting passports to stateless persons who were accepted into the citizenship of Turkmenistan in accordance with the decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was held.
The event was attended by representatives of Turkmen ministries and departments, international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, elders and journalists. Present at the ceremony were Yasuko Oda, Head of the UNHCR Regional Office for Central Asia, Natalia German, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, and Elena Panova, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, noted Turkmenistan's contribution to addressing stateless persons.
Speakers at the ceremony emphasized that the example of Turkmenistan is important not only for the Central Asian region, but also for the whole world. Over the years of independence, about 23 thousand people have been accepted into the citizenship of Turkmenistan.
