Employees of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in France took part in the opening ceremony of the eighth session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held on September 8-10.
The agenda of the discussion includes the revisions of the Operational Directives, the application of the ICH Fund and the very timely topic of safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage in emergencies. The elections to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage will be held during the current session.
Our country joined the UNESCO Convention in 2011. The epic art “Gorogly” as an example of the destan performance of the Turkmen people was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2015, the Turkmen national art of singing and dancing “Kushtdepdi” – in 2017, as well as the traditions of the Turkmen art of carpet weaving – in 2019.
