The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the work of the 137th session of the UN Human Rights Committee (HRC). The delegation includes heads and representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the ministries of foreign affairs, justice and internal affairs, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General's Office, as well as the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan.
During the session, the Human Rights Committee considered the 3rd periodic report of Turkmenistan on the implementation of the norms and provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The delegation of Turkmenistan provided information on the activities carried out in this area on the basis of proposals previously put forward by the HRC. During the session, the Turkmen side and the Human Rights Committee monitored the implementation of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights under the ICCPR.
The members of the committee welcomed the presented report and the active participation of the delegation of Turkmenistan in the session. The HRC also noted that the dialogue took place in a confidential and transparent format, which gave the parties an opportunity to discuss existing issues and determine further steps for progress in the field of human rights.
