The Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Russia discussed the upcoming meeting of Serdar Berdimuhamedov with Vladimir Putin

On June 6, a telephone conversation took place between the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Russia Sergey Lavrov .

The parties discussed preparations for the upcoming official visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Russia, where he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin .

In addition, issues of preparation for the VI Caspian Summit, which will be held in Turkmenistan, were considered, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports .

It was previously assumed that the summit would be held in Turkmenistan in 2021. During a telephone conversation on October 7 last year, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov suggested that Vladimir Putin , despite the pandemic , hold it in person "for a detailed consideration of topical issues." However, the dates of the forum were postponed to 2022.

On the eve of Berdimuhamedov's trip to Moscow in the "coming days" spoke the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov .

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, on the same day, Meredov also discussed the trip of the head of state to Moscow with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk by phone .

In addition, issues of further development of bilateral ties in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres were discussed.

Overchuk visited Turkmenistan in April this year. In Ashgabat, he met with Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Rashid Meredov. None of the parties reported the details of the visit, limiting themselves to general phrases about the development of cooperation in the trade, economic and fuel and energy sectors, agriculture, light and processing industries.
