The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held online negotiations with the leadership of a number of regional UN structures

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held online negotiations with the leadership of a number of regional UN structures. In particular, the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry discussed issues of developing cooperation with the heads of the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) for Europe and Central Asia, the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the UNESCO Cluster Office in Tehran, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Central Asia, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Meredov noted that the UN is a strategic partner of Turkmenistan, and in this regard, the country’s government is ready to further develop cooperation with the United Nations. According to him, today the Turkmen side is implementing more than 50 regional and national projects with specialized UN structures in such areas as sustainable development, digitalization, the humanitarian dimension, climate change, environmental protection, etc. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan called on the heads of the UN regional structures to develop new areas of cooperation.

In their speeches, the heads of the UN departments spoke about the ongoing joint work with the government of Turkmenistan, supported the recommendations of the Turkmen side regarding the search for new ways of interaction.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen the activities of specialized UN programs in Central Asia and, in particular, in Turkmenistan.
