The Head of the Upper House of the Parliament of Turkmenistan completed an official visit to the Republic of Korea

On the last day of his official visit to the Republic of Korea, the head of the upper house of the Turkmen parliament – the Halk Maslakhaty (People’s Council) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the President of South Korea, Yun Sok Yel.

During the talks, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov told the South Korean leader that Ashgabat was promoting a new philosophy of international relations “Dialogue is a guarantee of peace”, based on specific political criteria, pragmatism and the UN Charter. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also noted the activities of the Republic of Korea – Central Asia forum, aimed at strengthening security and ensuring the peaceful development of the countries of the region, stressing that Turkmenistan will chair this structure in 2023.

At the end of the meeting, the chairman of the upper house of the Turkmen parliament met with representatives of South Korean business. Speaking at the meeting, he noted that despite the negative trends in the world economy, Turkmenistan managed to maintain a steady pace of economic growth. According to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the national legislative base, brought into line with the norms of international law, plays an important role in attracting foreign investors. He stressed that the country has adopted effective laws in the field of taxation, investment, private entrepreneurship and improving the stability of the financial system of Turkmenistan. As an example, it was noted that to date, 13 projects have been registered in Turkmenistan with the participation of Korean companies for a total amount of more than eleven billion US dollars.

As a result of the meeting, a package of bilateral documents was signed aimed at developing partnership in the economic sphere between business and government structures of the two countries.

After that, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a series of bilateral meetings with the heads of major South Korean companies. During these meetings, the possibilities of implementing joint business projects in the urban planning sector, in the fuel and energy complex and high technologies were discussed.

Having completed his official visit to the Republic of Korea, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan left for his homeland.
