On May 17, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Igor Bukato , head of the Vozrozhdeniye Group of design and construction companies (Russia) , the state information agency TDH reports .
The businessman congratulated the head of state on the Day of the Constitution and the State Flag of Turkmenistan, and then informed about the construction of mudflow diversion facilities in the southern part of Ashgabat.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan is now actively introducing digital technologies in all sectors of the economy, and the experience of Russian companies can be useful in this area.
Bukato noted that his company "values the trust placed in it and will continue to approach the fulfillment of its obligations in a responsible manner."
On the same day, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Igor Bukato, as well as the chairman of the Committee for External Relations of the city of St. Petersburg , Yevgeny Grigoriev , who arrived on a visit to Ashgabat. The meeting was also attended by Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin .
"The parties noted the high level of trade and economic ties, including the participation of Russian companies in a number of infrastructure construction projects on the territory of Turkmenistan," the country's Foreign Ministry said .
The websites of the administration of St. Petersburg and the Vozrozhdenie company do not report on these meetings.
Igor Bukato, the head of Vozrozhdenie, presented the project of mudflow diversion facilities to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on December 10, 2019, a week before the tender was announced . In July 2020, the company began construction work, which should be completed in September this year.
Previously, Ashgabat annually suffered from mudflows and flooding during heavy rains. The city administration tried to cope with the problem on its own, and in 2018 they began to build storm sewers in the capital . However, in February 2019, the president expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the capital's sewerage system and a tender was announced in the country for the construction of mudflow diversion facilities.
