On Friday, 24 December, addressing Turkmenistan's Cabinet of Ministers, President Berdymukhammedov authorized Deputy Prime Ministers S. Toilyev and Sh. Durdylyev to announce the international tender to construct a building, which will accommodate a new Department of the Institute of Sports and Tourism which, with the help of scientific methods, will properly train and identify athletes capable of taking part in the Olympics-level sports competition and achieving impressive results.
Let us recall that athletes from Turkmenistan failed to demonstrated good results at the Olympics held in Rio in 2016. The poor performance of Turkmenistan's national caused discontent of President Berdymukhammedov, who said at the Cabinet session on 26 August: there is hardly any other country in the world which invests such huge amounts of money in sports as Turkmenistan.
The Asian Indoor and Marshal Arts Asian Games are scheduled to be held in Ashgabat in September 2017. The government has spent $5 billion dollars on the construction of the Olympic town.
