On 23 July President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, who returned from his annual leave, held a video conference in the course of which he announced the establishment of Turkmenistan's Institute of State, Law and Democracy.
The new agency was set up as the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights and the Institute of State and Law under President of Turkmenistan had merged, the state information agency TDH reports.
According to the news outlet, the Institute will be engaged in comprehensive research activities, reviewing advanced law enforcement practices, preparing analytical and information reviews in constitutional law, democratization of the society and improving the legislation.
Moreover, the newly-established institution will be charged with the task of implementing the national programs and plans related to human rights.
Yagmyr Nuryev was appointed the director of the Institute whereas Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister will provide oversight of the agency.
