In the new administrative center of the Akhal velayat (region), the city of Arkadag, a solemn ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the main mosque of the region was held.
The ceremony was attended by elders, members of parliament, heads of ministries, departments, regional administrations of the country, heads of diplomatic missions of Islamic states accredited in Turkmenistan, artists and journalists. Also, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, Rustam Minnikhanov, who is in Ashgabat on a working visit, took part in the laying of the mosque.
The total area of the main mosque in Akhal velayat will be 34.5 hectares, which will allow over 15,000 believers to pray at the same time. The hall for sadaka (ritual meals) is designed for 1500 people. The mosque will be decorated with four minarets, each 104 meters high. On one of the minarets, at a height of 97 meters, it is planned to build an observation deck.
The mosque will be built at the expense of citizens from a charitable foundation specially created for the construction of this temple.
