The seventeenth regular meeting of the lower house of parliament - the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh of the sixth convocation was held, at which a number of laws and regulatory legal acts were considered.
According to the agenda, the deputies considered draft laws “On the ratification of the Treaty between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan on the delimitation of the Turkmen-Kazakh state border and the delimitation of adjacent sections of fishing zones on the Caspian Sea”, “On the ratification of the Agreement between the government of Turkmenistan and the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the regime of the Turkmen-Kazakhstan border of Kazakhstan”, “On the ratification of the Agreement Establishing the International Islamic Trade and Finance Corporation”, “On the ratification of the Act amending the Charter of the International Labor Organization”, “On the ratification of the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing Illicit Import, Export and Transfer ownership of cultural property,“On Accession to the Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Procedures for Cross-Border Paperless Trade in the Asia-Pacific Region”, “On Accession to the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards”, “On Accession to the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods”.
In addition, the deputies considered draft laws on amendments and additions to a number of legal acts.
The report of the Authorized Representative for Human Rights in Turkmenistan, Yazdursun Gurbannazarova, was presented to the deputies for consideration, and she informed about the work done.
An important item on the agenda of the meeting was the discussion of the draft Resolution of the Mejlis Milli Gengesh "On the election of the Ombudsman."
As noted, the activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Turkmenistan are regulated by the relevant law that meets the international obligations of the country in the humanitarian sphere, taking into account the practice of developed democratic states of the world, and creating strong guarantees for the protection of human and civil rights and freedoms by the Ombudsman.
In accordance with the Law “On the Ombudsman”, 3 candidates were submitted for consideration by the deputies, from which the participants of the meeting made their choice by secret ballot. Yazdursun Gurbannazarova was re-elected to the post.
The meeting also discussed the draft Resolution of the Mejlis Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan “On the plan of legislative activity of the Mejlis Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan for 2022”.
The draft legislative acts submitted for consideration by the lower house of parliament were unanimously approved and adopted.
