The briefing for foreign diplomats and journalists accredited in Ashgabat was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The meeting was devoted to the results of the conference of ministers of transport of landlocked developing countries, held on August 15-16 this year in the Avaza national tourist zone.
The briefing noted the relevance of building efficient transport systems and multilateral cooperation to build sustainable supply chains for goods in the post-pandemic period.
Particular attention was paid to the initiatives put forward at the conference by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the need to permanently fix transport issues on the global agenda of the UN as a separate area of its activity and make the dialogue on these issues systemic.
In particular, the head of state proposed to create a special working group in the UN, which would purposefully defend the interests of developing countries with no access to the sea, and develop a draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on enhancing the role of these states in the development of global transport cooperation.
The leaders and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, who spoke at the briefing, noted the relevance of the transport forum in view of the need to quickly resolve the problems of socio-economic development in the national, regional and global dimensions, as well as diversify freight traffic in the post-pandemic period.
