At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on February 18, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported on the preparation of a new Concept of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, the state information agency TDH reports .

The minister reported that now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies and consulates of Turkmenistan are working in accordance with the Concept of foreign policy for 2017-2023. However, since the meeting of the Halk Maslakhaty on February 11 approved the 30-year Turkmenistan Development Program “where special attention is paid to foreign policy,” the official suggested preparing a new document.

The Acting President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposal.

According to the signed Decree, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was instructed to prepare by June 1:

• Proposal for the draft Concept of the Foreign Policy Course of Turkmenistan for 2023-2030;

• Together with the Ministry of Adalat, proposals for the further development of the legal framework of the diplomatic service of Turkmenistan and submit to the Cabinet of Ministers;

• together with the Ministry of Finance and Economics, proposals for the modern development of the structure of the diplomatic service of Turkmenistan.

In accordance with the document, a Government working group for the development of the document was also created and its composition was approved.

TDH reports that today there are 40 diplomatic missions and consulates of Turkmenistan abroad. Ambassadors of the country are represented in 15 international organizations.
