The Office of the Mufti of Turkmenistan has opened a special charitable account in the Bank "Turkmenistan" for donations for the construction of a mosque in the new capital of Akhal velayat. The announcement was published in the December 8 issue of the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
“Thanks to the initiatives of the honorary elder of Turkmenistan Haji Arkadag, the assistance and support of the respected President Arkadaglu Haji Serdar, the principles of humanism are being established in the country, more and more comfortable conditions are being created for preserving and supporting the peculiar national traditions and customs of the Turkmen people coming from ancient times, educating the younger generation in accordance with moral principles and the free performance by citizens of their religious rites ,” the announcement reads.
It should be noted that just a week ago, the US State Department once again recognized Turkmenistan as a country of particular concern in the field of religious freedom.
In June, the head of the State Committee for the Construction of the Center of the Akhal Velayat , Deryageldi Orazov , "taking into account numerous wishes", made a proposal to build a mosque in the city. Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesh Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov , who regularly inspects the construction site, approved it and instructed that 5.5 thousand people could pray there at the same time. “This will contribute to the strengthening of moral principles and a benevolent atmosphere in society,” the TDH wrote at the time.
On December 3, the ex-president held a working meeting with members of the Milli Gengesh and ministers on the theme of the grand opening of the new city, at which he instructed the chairman of the Central Bank , Toyly Myalikov, to analyze the expenditure of funds allocated for the construction of the city and use the saved money to build a new mosque.
This is not the first time that citizens of Turkmenistan have been asked to donate money for the construction of a mosque. At a working meeting on May 3, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals of the khyakims of the velayats, voiced according to the "wishes of the population", on the construction of mosques and premises for gardening in all administrative centers of the regions. On May 31, the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" published an announcement from the Office of the Mufti of Turkmenistan on a charitable collection of money for their construction.
