The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan announced the start of the nomination of candidates for deputies of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan, whose elections will be held on March 26, 2023 .
According to Article 44 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, the nomination of candidates begins 60 days before the elections and ends thirty days before the elections. Also, according to the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, the right to nominate candidates belongs to political parties registered before the scheduled election day, as well as groups of citizens.
The Majlis consists of 125 deputies elected on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot. A citizen of Turkmenistan who has reached the age of 25 and has been permanently residing in Turkmenistan for the previous ten years may be elected as a deputy of the Mejlis.
On March 26, along with the elections of deputies of the Mejlis, the country will also hold elections for members of local representative bodies of power - regional, district, city People's Councils of the fifth convocation and Councils of the ninth convocation.
