On November 11-12, an online seminar "International practice and norms of interaction of national human rights institutions with law enforcement agencies, associations of lawyers and international human rights institutions" was held in Ashgabat.
The event was organized by the Office of the Ombudsman jointly with UNDP with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan at the expense of the Government of Canada, according to the website of the international organization.
Expert Petr Iiscola presented the international mechanisms of interaction between the Office of the Ombudsman and law enforcement agencies and other state institutions in the field of human rights protection in accordance with the Paris Principles.
“The seminar aims to raise awareness among law enforcement officials and lawyers about international best practices for cooperation between the Office of the Ombudsman and law enforcement agencies, as well as the UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, guidance on the role of prosecutors, UN principles and guidelines on access to legal aid in criminal justice systems , ”said Akmurat Danatarov, UNDP program analyst on governance, economic diversification and inclusive growth .
