On April 24, President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov arrived on a one-day working visit to Turkmenistan, the press service of the head of the Republic of Tatarstan reports .
At the Rukhyet Palace in Ashgabat, Minnikhanov was received by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov .
Minnikhanov and Berdimuhamedov toured the exhibition dedicated to the Day of the Horse and the Turkmen Alabai (the holidays were combined in December 2021), after which they discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation.
The head of Tatarstan said that in 2021 the volume of trade with Turkmenistan amounted to $77.5 million and proposed to increase the figure through cooperation in the fields of oil exploration, oil production, gas transportation, cars, aircraft, shipbuilding, and the supply of chemical products.
Berdimuhamedov noted that he was ready to continue the "tradition of close cooperation" with Tatarstan.
Earlier, representatives of Tatneft expressed interest in working on the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea, however, in December 2021, the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov , said that no agreements had been reached in this area at the moment.
In October 2021, the leaders of Tatneft presented their proposals to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to repair more than 300 idle oil wells, as well as to double production at the country's fields. Berdymukhammedov has instructed subject matter experts to study the proposals, but no results have yet been announced.
In addition, in February last year, Albert Karimov announced that in 2021 it is planned to supply two helicopters of the Kazan Helicopters JSC to Turkmenistan: the military transport Mi-17-1V and the medical Ansat, as well as 463 units of Kamaz vehicles. . In April, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov personally inspected a medical helicopter that arrived in Turkmenistan.
Minnikhanov invited the delegation of Turkmenistan to visit Kazan during the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria, which will be celebrated on May 21.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the state media of Turkmenistan have not yet reported on Minnikhanov's visit to Ashgabat.
On the same day, the head of Tatarstan published on his social networks a photo of the Turkmen Alabai Akdus, which was presented to him by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in May last year .
