President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, the Council President of International Civil Aviation Organization.
Having highly appreciated large-scale reforms in civil aviation, the Head of ICAO highlighted that Turkmenistan deservingly occupies leading positions among aviation powers of the world.
In his turn, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that recently, our country attaches special importance to modernization of transport sector including the improvement of facilities and equipment base of aviation sphere.
Having highlighted that Turkmenistan is one of the important partners of ICAO, Dr. Aliu expressed his gratitude to the Head of the State for the support of expansion of business cooperation as well as for the opportunity to invest in the development of Turkmen aviation. Having highly valued unique features of Ashgabat Airport complex, the guest noted that this is an excellent and bold solution in civil construction. As the result of harmonic combination of unusual shape and optimum functionality, the airport is the largest in the Central Asia and one of the most advanced by its technical provision.
During the meeting, the sides shared the visions on the prospects of bilateral cooperation under National Programme for the development of civil aviation in Turkmenistan for 2012 � 2030. According to the programme, new airports have been built and are under construction in Turkmen capital and the regions, reconstruction of existing airports, terminals and infrastructural facilities is carried out what enhance the development of the economy, consolidation and expansion of interstate relations and improvement of the authority of our country in the world's arena.
Systematic supply of the fleet with super modern aircrafts, opening of new flights including international routes to economically beneficial directories, training of highly qualified specialists are carried out. Comprehensive measures are carried out in accordance with general standards and rules of International Civil Aviation Organization.
Expansion of cooperation under the projects for formation of international transit and transport hub on the intersection of the most important trade routes of the continent was one of the main topics of discussion. In this regards, Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu mentioned the importance of the UN General Assembly Resolution on the Role of transport and transit corridors in provision of international cooperation for sustainable development.
Having highlighted the presence of large perspectives for expansion of cooperation under the ICAO, the guest confirmed the interest of this international structure in cooperation with our country. During the meeting, number of proposals on realization of joint projects were given as well as mutual intent for long-term beneficial partnership was expressed.
