The President of Turkmenistan brings up the issue of plastic recycling

At the field session on 23 March, which was devoted to the development of the capital, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov raised the issue of plastic recycling.

The state information agency TDH reports that according to the President, new state-of-the-art machinery and garbage collection and disposal equipment are purchased in Ashgabat on a regular basis to keep the city clean. However, the issue pertaining to recycling of plastic waste needs to be urgently addressed.

The news outlet reports that a wide range of soft drinks in glass or plastic bottles is produced in Turkmenistan. Bottle packaging looks more attractive but the use of plastic bottles is caused by objective reasons.

The President was quoted by TDH as saying that during major sports events and in public places soft drinks in plastic packaging are allowed to be used.

However, the use of plastics leads to increased plastic waste, which takes ages to decompose. In this connection the head of the state charged the municipal authorities with the task of intensifying efforts in recycling and reusing plastic products.

It should be emphasized that the statement was made by the head of the state at a time when Turkmenistan is promoting plastic products manufactured by the polyethylene and polypropylene plant commissioned in October 2018.

In April President of Korea Moon Jae-in visited the manufacturing facilities, which had been built with the help of Korean investments, where he was demonstrated the product line produced at the plant including pipes, plastic kitchenware, toys, textile threads for carpets, ropes, packing twine and many other plastic items.
