President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Kieshi Ejim, who arrived in Ashgabat at the head of his country's delegation.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for the further development of Turkmen-Japanese cooperation in trade, economic and industrial spheres. Industry, oil and gas chemistry, power engineering, transport and communications sector and others were named among the key areas of partnership.
In this regard, the parties noted the important role of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen committees for economic cooperation, whose activities are designed to contribute to the practical implementation of the bilateral agreements reached and to increase the volume of trade.
The construction of a 432 MW gas turbine power plant in Lebap velayat (region) with the participation of the Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation was named as an example of effective Turkmen-Japanese cooperation. In this regard, Kiyishi Ejima expressed gratitude to the Turkmen leader for the invitation of the Japanese delegation to take part in the opening ceremony of the new power plant. It was noted that its commissioning will benefit not only Turkmenistan, but also the region, and will also contribute to the supply of electricity to neighboring Afghanistan.
In turn, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan is committed to the policy of developing friendly relations with neighboring countries and provides support to Afghanistan in the restoration of its economy through the implementation of projects for the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, as well as the laying of power transmission lines and fiber-optic communications along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route. ...
On the same day, the State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Kiyoshi Ejima met with Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The parties discussed issues of expanding Turkmen-Japanese cooperation in energy and industry. Particular attention was paid to the upcoming launch of a new gas turbine power plant in Lebap velayat, built with the participation of Japanese partners.
