The President of Turkmenistan met with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia, Teri Hakala, who arrived in Ashgabat on a visit.

The head of Turkmenistan stressed at the talks that the expansion of contacts with the European Union has been and remains one of the key directions of the foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the interlocutors noted that at present, bilateral cooperation between Ashgabat and Brussels is effectively developing within the framework of existing mechanisms, in particular, the European Union-Turkmenistan joint committee, inter-parliamentary dialogue, dialogue on human rights and consultative meetings between foreign ministries. In addition, Turkmenistan and the EU effectively cooperate at the regional level, including within the framework of the dialogue "European Union - Central Asia".

Among the most successful joint projects were projects in the field of legislation, education, information and communication technologies, agriculture and water management, as well as in the field of nature protection and climate change. In conclusion, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov once again stressed that Turkmenistan highly appreciates cooperation with the European Union.

Also, the EU Special Representative for Central Asia met in Ashgabat with the speakers of the upper and lower houses of the Turkmen parliament - Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Gulshat Mammedova.
