The Presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan held talks in Tehran

Talks were held in Tehran between President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Iran on an official visit.

During the talks in narrow format and with the participation of members of the delegations of the two countries, the leaders of Turkmenistan and Iran discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian fields. Particular attention was paid to the fuel and energy, transport and communications and agricultural sectors.

The parties also exchanged views on issues of international and regional agenda of mutual interest. Here, the heads of the two neighboring states focused on issues of bilateral cooperation within the framework of international and regional structures, primarily in the UN.

The Caspian problem occupied a special place at the talks. In this regard, Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that topics related to the Caspian Sea will be the subject of discussion during the VI summit of the heads of state of the Caspian countries, scheduled to be held this year in Turkmenistan. The head of Turkmenistan invited his Iranian counterpart to the summit. In addition, the Turkmen leader invited the head of Iran to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan at a convenient time for him.

During the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan is an active supporter of international efforts to assist Afghanistan. In this regard, the head of state proposed to consider the possibility of holding a meeting of special representatives of Turkmenistan and Iran on Afghanistan in the near future.

The talks were followed by a ceremony of signing bilateral documents. To the applause of those present, Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi signed the joint statement.

Also, following the meeting, the parties signed memorandums on the development of transport and transit cooperation, on cooperation in the field of environmental protection, on cooperation between the State News Agency of Turkmenistan and the Information Agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the establishment of a joint committee on investments, on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between the border regions of the two countries, etc.

At the end of the document signing ceremony, the heads of state made brief statements to the press.

Then the President of Turkmenistan met with the Supreme Spiritual Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The meeting was also attended by Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi.

During the talks, issues of expanding the Turkmen-Iranian partnership, as well as the problems of ensuring regional stability and security were discussed.

After that, the President of Turkmenistan visited an exhibition of national values ​​and arts and crafts of the Iranian people in the Hafezie Palace. Among the presented exhibits are products made in Iran, carpets, rugs and works of fine art.

Then the meeting of the President of Turkmenistan with the Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Council of Iran Mohammed Bager Ghalibaf took place. During the talks, issues of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

After that, the motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan headed to the Mehrabad International Airport, from where the head of state left for his homeland.
