The tender announced in the autumn of 2020 for the construction of plants for the production of iodine and bromine in the Balkans has been extended

The state concern "Turkmenhimiya" has extended the international tender for the design and construction of plants for the production of iodine, bromine and their derivatives at the raw material bases of the iodine plant "Balkanabat", Balkan velayat. The corresponding announcement was published in the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" on August 17.

Recall that the tender was originally announced on October 6, 2020, then extended until April 19 last year. On June 23, it was re-announced.

In October last year, Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov , who is in charge of the construction, industrial and energy complex, reported to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov that the Balkanabat plant with a design capacity of 450 tons produces only 340 tons (75.5%) of technical iodine per year and submitted it to the President for consideration a number of proposals to increase production.

On the basis of the plant, it is planned to reconstruct wells with deposits of iodine and bromine and build new production facilities equipped with innovative equipment. A tender will be held for this. . The Head of State approved the submitted proposals and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to study the possibilities for increasing the volume of iodine production and to involve foreign companies in this work.

Then, already in December , it was reported that the Balkanabat iodine plant would produce caustic soda, chlorine and chlorine products. To this end, the members of the UIET will create a joint stock company Balkanhimsenagat with the Turkmenhimiya State Concern, where, after the reconstruction of existing workshops, the production of chemical products in demand in industry and medicine will be launched.
