The theater of Turkmenbashi was given the status of “Academic”

On June 24, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on conferring the status of "Academic" drama theater named after the Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashi in Ashgabat, the state news agency TDH reports .

According to TDH, the new status was assigned to the theater “in order to further improve the theatrical activity in independent neutral Turkmenistan in the era of the Renaissance of the new era of the powerful state, to promote the creative potential of theaters.”

The resolution on approving the procedure and conditions for assigning theaters the legal status "National" or "Academic" was adopted in February 2022.

According to article 19 of the law of Turkmenistan "On theater and theatrical activities", the status of "Academic" is assigned "for a significant contribution to the formation, development and promotion of national culture and arts."

In May of this year, a resolution was also adopted to approve the procedure and conditions for granting the legal status of "National" to the country's museums.
