At a Cabinet meeting on February 3, Deputy Prime Minister for Culture and Media Myahridjemal Mammedova presented a draft resolution on approving the procedure and conditions for granting theaters the legal status of "National" or "Academic". This is reported by the state information agency TDH , but does not specify what these conditions are.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that these statuses should be awarded to the best theatrical groups of the country based on the results of artistic and educational activities.
The document was adopted to "further improve theatrical activities, promote the creative potential of theaters and stimulate theatrical workers ".
According to article 19 of the law of Turkmenistan "On theater and theatrical activities", the status of "National" is assigned to a theater group or theater "for outstanding achievements related to the development of national culture."
The status "Academic" is assigned to State cultural organizations, individual professional artistic and creative groups that are leaders in their field. This status can be obtained "for a significant contribution to the formation, development and promotion of national culture and arts."
The law notes that the procedure and conditions for granting theaters the status of "National" or "Academic" are approved by the President of Turkmenistan.
