Top Hungarian Diplomat Anticipates Resolution of Ukraine Conflict Under Trump.

Budapest: US President-elect Donald Trump aims to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, and the goal could be achieved despite opposition from the outgoing Biden administration, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said, APA reports citing TASS. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Szijjarto expressed optimism about reaching a resolution in Ukraine, stating, "We are very close to a point where Donald Trump's goal of putting an end to this war becomes a reality." These comments were made during an interview with the M1 broadcaster, following a meeting with Mike Waltz, Trump's choice for national security advisor. However, Szijjarto noted a conflicting stance expressed by current US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. During a NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels held on December 3-4, Blinken emphasized continuing the Ukraine conflict, highlighting a contrast in foreign policy approaches between the current and incoming US administrations. The Hungarian diplomat further elaborate d on the challenges posed by the transition of power in the US. He suggested that the outgoing administration "is trying to make sure that it is hard to establish peace after January 20," the date when Trump is scheduled to assume office. Szijjarto acknowledged the complexity of the situation, describing a dilemma where "on the one hand, there is a good chance to resolve the conflict, but on the other, the risk of an escalation is higher than ever before." He expressed hope that the situation in Ukraine remains stable until Trump's inauguration, to avoid any irreversible changes that could hinder peace efforts.
