The presidential office says full authority permitted under existing law will be given to Prime Minister nominee Kim Byong-joon.
A Cheong Wa Dae official told reporters on Monday that if President Park Geun-hye meets with rival party chiefs, she will ask them to reconsider their position regarding the nominee and launch procedures for his parliamentary confirmation hearing.
Regarding the opposition's calls for the president's "stepping aside from state affairs," the official said the expression appears to have the same meaning as forming a neutral Cabinet or transferring powers to the prime minister.
The official added that expressions are not important, but what matters is that the prime minister actually holds and exercises authority to manage state affairs.
