The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae denounced the political opposition for what it calls "irresponsible political incitement" Friday, after it invoked rumors that the president was preparing to impose martial law.
Democratic Party Chairwoman Choo Mi-ae had suggested earlier the president may be considering martial law as a solution to the ongoing political scandal. Presidential Spokesman Jung Youn-kuk called the remark extremely regrettable. He urged the opposition party to refrain from remarks that can cause social confusion.
She accused the president of trying to gather her support base to buy time and sending signals to law enforcement agencies not to be swayed by the ongoing political turmoil.
