TOPICAL ISSUES OF TURKMEN-QATARI RELATIONS WERE DISCUSSED DURING A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION

On the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.O. Meredov had a telephone conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

At the beginning of the negotiations, the parties noted the high level of bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields. The commitment of both countries and peoples to further strengthen cooperation across a wide spectrum was emphasized.

The interlocutors stressed that Turkmenistan and the State of Qatar have reached a qualitatively new level of relations. An interested exchange of views took place on the possibilities for the further development of bilateral partnership, taking into account the existing multifaceted potential. A significant role is also assigned to the work of the joint Intergovernmental Commission, designed to promote the practical implementation of the agreements reached, diversify and build up productive cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, strengthen business contacts, and stimulate investment activity.

In particular, topical regional and international issues were considered, including the consolidation of joint efforts to counter the new coronavirus pandemic. In this context, the diplomats noted the importance and relevance of the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan to establish a Council of Medical Scientists to organize and conduct effective timely consolidated work in emergency situations. The heads of the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and the State of Qatar also especially stated that in view of the complex global situations, the popularization of effective mechanisms of scientific diplomacy is becoming relevant.

In addition, during the conversation, it was agreed to continue regular consultations between the two Foreign Ministries.
