On January 19, the Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Togan Oral , gave a press conference for representatives of the local press. This was reported by the Turkmen state and pro-government publications.
The main purpose of the meeting was the implementation of the agreements in the field of media reached between Turkmenistan and Turkey within the framework of the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Ashgabat in November 2021, Business Turkmenistan writes .
The Ambassador highly appreciated the quality of the Turkmen information publications and announced that Khairettin Bektash had been appointed Press Attache of the Turkish Embassy .
Oral also said that the volume of trade between the countries for 11 months of 2021 amounted to $1.911 billion. According to the ambassador, transportation through the Caspian was actively used for trade.
The diplomat highly appreciated the cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on the joint development of the Dostluk Caspian field, as well as cooperation with Iran on swap gas supplies to Azerbaijan, since in this way Turkmen gas can be supplied to European countries via the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline passing through Turkey.
The Orient information website mentions the ambassador's statement that " the resumption of regular flights between Turkmenistan and Turkey is expected in the near future." Other publications that covered the press conference did not report this.
The Turkish press officer also spoke about the fact that Turkey is rebranding and abandoning the former English name of its country "Turkey" and will now use the name "Türkiye".
The corresponding decision was made in December 2021 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan , since the word "Türkiye" best represents and expresses the culture, civilization and values of the Turkish nation . The TRT World edition gave more intelligible explanations for the abandonment of the former name - in English, turkey is translated as turkey and is also used to denote a stupid person or failure. To avoid such comparisons, the government of the country came to the conclusion that it is necessary to change the international designation of the state.
