On November 21, after a meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Ouji said that Tehran and Baku could sign an agreement on joint development of oil and gas fields in the Caspian Sea, TASS reported .
The parties also agreed on swap gas supplies to Azerbaijan through Iran from neighboring countries, including Turkmenistan.
Ouji expects the signing of the agreement to take place "in the coming weeks."
Earlier, Armenia tried to negotiate swap deliveries of Turkmen gas through Iran . However, the matter did not go further than discussions.
Swap deliveries are used in the absence of the necessary infrastructure for direct gas transportation under the equivalent scheme. In this case, Turkmenistan will export gas to Iran, which in turn will supply the same volumes, but already of its own gas, to Azerbaijan.
