Turkmen press in electronic format will become inaccessible to foreign readers

From 2022, access to the Turkmen press in electronic format will become paid. The corresponding announcement was published on the website of the Turkmen State Publishing Service.

Information on prices and methods of payment is not provided on the site.

Now the publishing service publishes newspapers and magazines printed in Turkmenistan in free access in pdf format.

The November 24 issue of the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports that subscribing to the Turkmen press in electronic format is possible on the website or in the Türkmenmetbugat mobile application. However, in order to gain access to the materials, you must have a Turkmen mobile phone number from which the funds are being withdrawn.

In addition, subscribers are required to provide their first and last name, as well as their place of work or study.

Judging by the reviews of the application on Google Play, now a six-month subscription costs 60 manats. Many users complain that they don’t have access to the press despite paying for a subscription. The app itself hasn’t been updated in over a year.

It should be noted that subscription to the main newspaper of the country “Neutral Turkmenistan” and to specialized publications is mandatory for employees of budgetary and state institutions.
