Three more medals – one silver and two bronze – were added to the thrift box of the Turkmenistan national team on the third day of the World SAMBO Championships in Bishkek.
Begench Baltayev won the silver award. The coach of the 2nd sports school of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of the Lebap velayat achieved this success in the weight category up to 79 kg, in which 22 athletes competed for medals.
In the finals, our compatriot was opposed by Stanislav Skryabin, a 33-year-old experienced Russian sambo wrestler who competed at the 2022 World Cup under the flag of the International SAMBO Federation (FIAS), the 2018 world champion in Bucharest, the silver medalist of the 2019 European Games in Minsk. The class of the titled opponent turned out to be higher. As a result, the Russian won the title of world champion for the second time, the Turkmen athlete was content with silver. Bronze medals in this weight category were awarded to Tumurkhuleg Davaadorzh (Mongolia) and Ivan Harkov (Bulgaria).
Begench Baltayev for the first time becomes vice-champion of the world. Earlier this year, he won silver medals at the Asian Championships in Jounieh (Lebanon) and the Asian Open Cup in Aktau (Kazakhstan).
The bronze medalists of the 2022 World Cup in the team of Turkmenistan were: in sports sambo – Guvanch Begaliyev (up to 98 kg), and in combat sambo Babajan Ivadullayev (over 98 kg). It is noteworthy that this year both athletes excelled at the Asian Championship, which was held in June in the Lebanese city of Jounieh.
Remind that earlier the title of world champion in sports sambo as part of the national team of Turkmenistan was won by a serviceman of the military unit № 1001 named after Malikguly Berdimuhamedov of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Muhammet Kossekov, and bronze medals were awarded to the representative of the National Federation of Martial Arts of Turkmenistan Kakageldi Egenbayev (up to 71 kg) and the coach of the sports school of the State Committee for physical education and sports Batyr Hojamuhamedov (over 98 kg).
The World Championship brought together about 400 athletes from over 50 countries who competed for medals in 21 weight categories among men and women in sports and combat sambo.
