Representatives of the foreign policy and migration departments of Turkmenistan, Austria and Tajikistan held online talks on the problem of Afghan refugees. This was reported by the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.
The parties discussed the situation in Afghanistan, in particular, its impact on regional stability and security. Particular attention was paid to issues of assistance to refugees and migrants, including an overview of possible mechanisms for cooperation in the regional and international aspects in expanding humanitarian assistance to the Afghan population.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Khadzhiyev noted that Ashgabat stands for an early settlement of the situation in Afghanistan with the participation of all responsible forces of this country, as well as for a more active participation of the world community in this area.
Khadzhiev stressed that Turkmenistan maintains an active and constructive dialogue with authorized representatives of the neighboring country, confirms the stability of the situation in the border areas, and works to maintain the proper functioning of freight traffic, as well as the work of border points between the two countries on the basis of a mutual agreement.
According to the deputy head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, Ashgabat, being a permanent member of the executive committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, has extensive experience in resolving difficult humanitarian situations and calls on international partners to find mutually acceptable ways to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
The parties agreed to continue an active dialogue aimed at taking concrete steps to facilitate the socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan.
