On 26 July the power line Rabat-Kashan-Kalai-nau was commissioned in Afghanistan. As instructed by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the opening ceremony.
It should be mentioned that it is not the only power line built by Turkmenistan in Afghanistan. In March 2016 the construction of electric power lines Iolotan-Takhbazar stretching along 146 kilometers towards Afghanistan was completed.
Let us recall that on 18 November 2017 Turkmenistan announced its plans to export electricity along the route Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TUTAP). This will mean that Afghanistan will turn from the recipient of electric power to its transiter.
However, the situation in Afghanistan might create obstacles for the implementation of the project in Afghanistan. For instance, in February 2016 Talibans tried to explode power lines on the border with Turkmenistan.
