At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan on October 28, Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov , who oversees the construction, industrial and energy complex, reported to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on increasing the production of iodine-bromine products.
According to the state information agency TDH , the Bereket and Balkanabat plants of the Turkmenhimiya State Concern annually receive more than 500 tons of technical iodine, most of which is exported.
According to the President's Program for the Socio-Economic Development of the Country for 2019-2025, the Balkanabat iodine plant in the Balkan velayat provides for the construction of facilities for the production of technical iodine, bromine and bromine products. Turkmenkhimiya received specific proposals from well-known foreign companies with experience in the construction of such facilities .
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the plant with a design capacity of 450 tons produces only 340 tons (75.5%) of technical iodine per year and submitted a number of proposals to increase production to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov .
On the basis of the plant, it is planned to reconstruct wells with deposits of iodine and bromine and build new production facilities equipped with innovative equipment. For this, a tender will be held.
The head of state approved the submitted proposals and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to study the possibilities for increasing the volume of iodine production at factories in the western region and to involve foreign companies in this work.
Recall that for the first time an international tender for the design and construction of plants for the production of iodine, bromine and their derivatives with the reconstruction of the raw material bases of the iodine plant "Balkanabat" was announced by the State Concern "Turkmenhimiya" in October 2020. Bids were accepted within 30 days. In April 2021, the tender was extended .
In November 2019, the president was told the same iodine production figures - more than 500 tons. Then it was also reported that in the Esenguly etrap of the Balkan velayat, at the Çukurguýy site, four new facilities for the production of technical iodine with a capacity of 90 tons per year were commissioned.
