At a cabinet meeting on October 22, Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov , who oversees the construction, industrial and energy complex, reported on preparations for the commissioning of a new Akhal-Balkan transmission line.
According to the state information agency TDH , this power transmission line is the implementation of the first stage of the creation of a ring energy system in Turkmenistan. It was built by domestic power engineers.
The power transmission line will connect the two regions and " will increase the reliability of power supply to domestic consumers , as well as increase the export of electricity," the newspaper notes.
"The upcoming commissioning of a new power transmission line will improve the quality of energy supply to cities and villages, solve important problems of socio-economic development, and also expand the country's export opportunities," President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said .
Power outages are frequent in Turkmenistan. Back in 2014, the president ordered the elimination of power outages for the population. In mid-October, the Chronicle of Turkmenistan reported that for more than ten days in the villages of the Lebap velayat, electricity and gas have been switched off every day (from 08.00 to 18.00). At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on October 15, the head of state instructed the government to strengthen work on the rational use of electricity and its saving by domestic consumers.
It became known in June 2019 that a ring power system (power lines Akhal-Balkan and Balkan-Dashoguz) will be built in the country .
Its construction began in July 2020 in Turkmenistan . The general contractor, the Turkmenenergostroy concern, has begun work on the construction of reinforced concrete foundations for the Akhal-Balkan and Balkan-Dashoguz power lines. At the same time, the construction of the Serdar-220 electrical substation began.
In January of this year, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was informed that the first stage of the new energy system would be launched this year in honor of the 30th anniversary of independence.
