Turkmenistan organizes a military parade in honour of the Victory Day for the first time

Turkmenistan celebrated the 75th anniversary of the victory in World War II.

In the morning President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, members of the government, veterans and diplomats laid wreath to the Eternal Flame.

After this the President of Turkmenistan met with Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation, Colonel General Aleksandr Fomin, who paid a visit to Ashgabat.

Fomin handed over to Berdymukhammedov the banner of the 748th rifle regiment of the  206th division of the 2nd Ukranian front, under which the President’s grandfather, Berdymukhamed Annayev, fought.

In the evening the military parade featuring the military equipment and vehicles of World War II was held at the memorial complex “People’s Memory”.

It should be mentioned that this was the first military parade on the occasion of the Victory Day in the history of Turkmenistan. Parades had been previously held only on the Day of Independence.
