Turkmenistan offered the European Union to hold a forum dedicated to the reconstruction of Afghanistan. This was stated by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Khadzhiev at the third meeting of the special representatives of the countries of Central Asia and the EU for Afghanistan in Brussels.
The agenda of the meeting included an overview of the challenges to regional security in the light of the situation in Afghanistan and the cooperation of the parties to provide assistance to the Afghan people. In his speech, the Turkmen representative pointed out the main factors hindering the achievement of internal political stability in Afghanistan and the improvement of socio-economic conditions in the country.
According to him, it is necessary to strengthen the dialogue with the Taliban authorities, create trusting relations, resume international programs and projects in this country, which will positively affect the policy of Kabul. In this regard, it was proposed to consider the possibility of holding a broad multilateral forum on the reconstruction of Afghanistan with the participation of the authorities of this country.
The representative of Turkmenistan also noted the need to support the Afghan economy through cooperation and joint projects, in particular, the continuation of the implementation of energy, transport, communication and other projects launched by Ashgabat.
