Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a series of talks on the sidelines of the third meeting of foreign ministers of countries neighboring Afghanistan, which is taking place in the Chinese city of Tunxi.
In particular, R. Meredov met with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki. The parties discussed the implementation of joint infrastructure projects. This is the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power line and railway lines between the two countries. The diplomats also stressed the need to further intensify the Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in the field of security.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. The parties noted that the Committee on Cooperation between Turkmenistan and China, which works in four main areas - trade, energy, security and culture, is an effective mechanism for interstate cooperation. The ministers also stressed the effectiveness of the multilateral dialogue between Turkmenistan and China within the framework of international and regional structures, especially within the framework of the Central Asia-China summit.
Particular attention at the talks was paid to the situation in Afghanistan. The parties noted the timeliness of this regional dialogue, and also stressed that Turkmenistan and China are conducting a dialogue on the Afghan issue on a permanent and systematic basis. In this regard, Rashid Meredov and Wang Yi noted the closeness and similarity of the positions of Ashgabat and Beijing on topical issues of the regional and global agenda, primarily related to ensuring global peace and security.
Also, the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry held talks in Chinese Tunxi with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir Abdulakhyan. The parties exchanged views on the current state of trade and economic relations between the two states, considered the possibility of increasing bilateral trade and developing cooperation in the fields of energy and transport.
