Turkmenistan reviews residents’ proposals ahead of the Khalk Maslakhaty session

Turkmenistan's preparations for the session of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council) were discussed at the Cabinet session held on 23 June.

It was announced that the Mejlis (Parliament) designs drafts of documents, reviews and summarizes proposals submitted by residents for the agenda of the nation-wide forum.

President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov ordered addressing all organizational issues, the agenda and the documents, which will be proposed for consideration by the session's participants, the state information agency TDH reports.

Let us recall that the decision to reinstate the Elders' Council back to the Khalk Maslakhaty (the People's Council) was voiced during the course of the latest Council session which was held on 10 October 2017.

The Council adopts decisions which are important, yet rather ambiguous and unpopular among residents. For instance, at the session held in October 2017 an official decision was made to abolish free quotas for public utilities for residents and President Berdymukhammedov was declared Turkmenistan's Hero for the second time.

More details on why the Council needed to be renamed are available in our article The Khalk Maslakhaty resuscitation return to legal consolidation of power?
