Turkmenistan sends groceries and construction materials to coronavirus-hit Astrakhan

Pursuant to the order of President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, Turkmenistan has sent groceries and manufactured goods, textile and construction materials to the Russian city of Astrakhan as “a gesture of goodwill”, the Turkmen pro-governmental news outlet “Orient” reports.

According to the website, as of today there are 564 confirmed coronavirus cases in Astrakhan.

In the meantime, state-run and pro-governmental media outlets of Turkmenistan continue to ignore the hurricane which hit the city of Turkmenabad on 27 April, 2020. According to independent media outlets, as a result of the disaster 30 to 300 people have died and hundreds of houses have been destroyed. The local administration is rendering no financial assistance to those affected whereas prices for groceries and construction materials have increased two or threefold.

Let us recall that on the occasion of Ramadan, on 30 April, 2020 Turkmenistan sent humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
