Turkmenistan to build country’s first underground gas storage

In order to create commercial gas reserves, Turkmenistan will build the first underground gas storage facility (UGS) in the country. Deputy Prime Minister Shahym Abdrakhmanov, who oversees the fuel and energy complex, spoke about this at a government meeting.

He said that "in accordance with international practice, it is planned to involve international consulting companies for the preparation of a feasibility study, design, equipment and construction."

After listening to the report, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of the rational and efficient use of gas resources and the need to take measures to further enhance cooperation in this area with foreign partners.

In terms of natural gas reserves, Turkmenistan is among the top four countries in the world along with Russia, Iran and Qatar.
