Chairman of the lower house of the parliament of Turkmenistan Mejlis Gulshat Mammadova took part online in the annual meeting of the "Dialogue of Women in Central Asia".
The meeting was attended by representatives of parliaments, governments and civil society institutions of the Central Asian region, UN structures, the Network of Arab Women Parliamentarians for Equality and the African Women's Union.
As part of the meeting, the results of the first year of the organization's functioning were summed up, as well as the prospects for its development and activity plans for 2022. In particular, it was noted that during the first year of its existence, the "Dialogue of Women of Central Asia" served as a high-level connecting political platform for women in the region. To this end, a number of events were held on the themes of sustainable development of the countries of the region, the political activities of women and the enhancement of their economic opportunities.
Speaking at the meeting, the representative of Turkmenistan noted that the country provides legal instruments and guarantees for the equal participation of men and women in government. Today, women in Turkmenistan are widely represented in the structures of all branches of government, in particular, in both chambers of parliament. The country is successfully implementing the second action plan for gender equality for 2021–2025. In April of this year, Turkmenistan was elected to the Executive Board of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) for 2022-2024.
At the end of the meeting, the appeal of the "Dialogue of Women of Central Asian Countries" to the heads of state of the region was adopted.
