Turkmenistan took part in the summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Samarkand

Chairman of the upper chamber of the Parliament of Turkmenistan – Khalk Maslakhaty (People’s Council) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part as an honored guest in the summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG), held in Samarkand.

A wide range of issues were put on the agenda of the Samarkand summit, including discussion of ways to build up multilateral partnership in all key areas, priority tasks for the further development of the organization, as well as topical topics of regional and international issues.

Speaking at a high-level meeting, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan noted that Ashgabat proceeds from the need to consolidate the efforts of states to achieve the main strategic goal – ensuring universal stability and security, observing the norms of international law and the UN Charter.

According to the ex-president of Turkmenistan, the political situation that is emerging in a number of regions of the Eurasian continent requires a very thoughtful, clear, serious assessment and the adoption of adequate measures. In this regard, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that the Organization of Turkic States, both autonomously and in close cooperation with the world community, should do everything necessary to end conflicts and develop far-sighted, responsible solutions.

Addressing the summit participants, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov recalled that last year Turkmenistan joined the UTC as an observer, which marked a new milestone in multifaceted cooperation with fraternal countries.

He expressed gratitude to the UTC member countries for their support within the framework of TURKSOY of the proposal of Turkmenistan to declare 2024 the Year of the great poet and thinker of the Turkic world Magtymguly Fragi and to proclaim the ancient city of Anau the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024.

At the end of his speech, he emphasized the relevance of further strengthening the unity and cohesion between the fraternal peoples, united by a common history, and expressed the readiness of Turkmenistan for close cooperation to achieve the high goals set – ensuring peace, prosperity and progress.

As a result of the summit, the Samarkand Declaration was adopted, aimed at further expanding multifaceted cooperation within the framework of the UTC. In addition, a decision was made to approve the candidacy of Kubanychbek Omuraliev for the post of Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States.

At the end of the summit, the ceremony of awarding the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the “Highest Order of the Turkic World” was held. It was also announced that the great Kyrgyz writer and humanist Chingiz Aitmatov was awarded the Alisher Navoi UTC International Prize “For Contribution to the Unity of the Turkic World”.

On the sidelines of the UTC summit, the chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan held a series of bilateral meetings. In particular, the ex-president of Turkmenistan held talks with the presidents of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Kyrgyzstan Sady Japarov and Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
