Turkmenistan-Turkey: following the traditions of friendship and brotherhood in the name of peace and creation

Turkmenistan, consistently implementing a peaceful foreign policy strategy based on the principles of permanent neutrality, is steadily increasing fruitful cooperation with all interested partners, both with individual states and major international organizations and authoritative regional structures.

A clear evidence of this is the established constructive dialogue with the Turkic-speaking states, primarily with Turkey, with whose people the Turkmen people share historical roots that go back thousands of years, a common mentality, cultural and spiritual values.

Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Recep Tayyip Erdogan invariably emphasize the mutual interest of the parties in intensifying interstate relations built on the principles of respect and mutual trust, taking into account national interests and the noticeably increased participation of the two countries in regional and global integration processes.

The recent meeting of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG) Binali Yildirim in the building of the Administration of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan was quite indicative in this regard.

Before the start of the meeting in a narrow format, a photographing ceremony was held against the background of the State flags of Turkmenistan and Turkey.

The guest expressed gratitude for the cordial welcome and conveyed warm greetings from the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the head of state, who wished peace, happiness and prosperity to the fraternal Turkmen people.

Having warmly welcomed the Chairman of the Council of Elders of the UTC Binali Yildirim, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that he was glad to see him in the ancient and hospitable Turkmen land.

Conveying best wishes in return to his Turkish counterpart, the leader of the nation stressed that the comprehensive development and strengthening of bilateral and multilateral cooperation with the Turkic states occupies an important place in the foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan intends to take an active and effective part in the activities of this Organization, including in the Council of Elders. In addition, I want to note the interest of our state in participating as a member in the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TURKPA) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Turkic countries, which was also discussed during a recent telephone conversation with my esteemed brother, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized.

Touching upon the topic of Turkmen-Turkish relations, the head of state stressed the great importance attached to long-term strategic bilateral cooperation.

Taking the opportunity, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed the readiness of our state to support initiatives aimed at building up and strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey, and expressed his firm confidence that the friendly ties between our countries would continue to develop comprehensively in the interests of the two fraternal peoples.

Then the meeting continued in an expanded format.

Welcoming the members of the delegation of the Council of Elders of a large regional organization, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan pays special attention to the development of broad cooperation with all interested partners, both with individual states and authoritative international and regional structures.

During the meeting, the exceptionally fruitful nature of the established trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and Turkey was noted.

The parties noted with satisfaction the great contribution of Turkish companies to the development of key sectors of the national economy of Turkmenistan and the successful implementation of large-scale projects, in particular, the construction of large socio-cultural and industrial facilities, as well as the implementation of important projects of regional importance, including energy and transport and communication areas.

Once again expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG) Binali Yildirim especially noted the merits of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in intensifying Turkmen-Turkish cooperation, which has reached a qualitatively new level in recent years.

As it was emphasized, Turkey highly appreciates and supports the multifaceted activities of the Turkmen leader and the large-scale reforms he is carrying out, which radically changed the life of the people and gave a powerful impetus to the socio-economic development of the Turkmen state, the growth of his authority in the international arena.

The Program “Revival of a New Era of a Powerful State: National Program for the Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052”, adopted at the historic meeting of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan on February 11 this year, is oriented towards this, and was highly appreciated in the world, including in Turkey, which is ready to contribute to its implementation.

Emphasizing the demand for the vast experience of the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who heads the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, Binali Yildirim expressed the hope that the fraternal Turkic states - Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Turkey - will do great joint work on further strengthening peace and general well-being.

In this regard, the initiative position of our country in matters of interstate cooperation within the framework of regional and international structures, as well as its desire to use the available opportunities to expand effective trade, economic, humanitarian and cultural relations in the vast geographical area occupied by the Turkic-speaking states in the Eurasian continent.

In parting, the Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States, Binali Yildirim, sincerely wished the fraternal Turkmen people happiness, prosperity and good luck in holding the upcoming March 12 Presidential elections - the most important socio-political event that marks the beginning of a new stage in the development of sovereign Turkmenistan.
