Turkmenistan – UNESCO: cooperation in the field of education

Today, the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture in the capital signed the Agreements on the establishment of UNESCO Chairs "Cultural Heritage: From the Past to the Future" at the Magtymguly Turkmen State University and "Environmental Education for Sustainable Development" at the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute. there was a signing ceremony.

The event was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and was attended by UNESCO Deputy Director General Stefania Giannini, responsible secretary of Turkmenistan's National Committee on UNESCO Affairs, heads of relevant ministries and higher education institutions.

As mentioned, development of cooperation with world states, international organizations, especially the United Nations and its specialized structures, including UNESCO, is given great importance as one of the important directions of the foreign policy strategy of independent and neutral Turkmenistan. The initiative to create UNESCO chairs in higher educational institutions of the country belongs to the President of the Republic of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Issues related to the creation of UNESCO chairs at the Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute will be discussed at the meeting of the National Committee on UNESCO Affairs on January 29, 2022 and April 23, 2023. It was discussed at the meeting held on February 6. Draft agreements on the creation of UNESCO chairs were prepared with the participation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Education of Turkmenistan, the responsible secretary of Turkmenistan's national committee on UNESCO affairs, and representatives of higher education institutions. These projects were then presented to the organization's headquarters in Paris, France.

Electronic copies of the documents signed by UNESCO Secretary General Audrey Azule have been delivered to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. According to the order signed by the President of Turkmenistan, today the rector of the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly and the rector of the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seyitnazar Seydi signed the original copies of the Agreements. This was a clear expression of the creation of all conditions for the development of effective cooperation with major international organizations during the Revival of the new epoch of the Stable State under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

"Languages of Peace" and "Culture of Peace" at the Institute of Turkmen National World Languages named after Dovelettmammet Azadi and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the joint participation of the national committee of Turkmenistan and groups of higher education institutions on the creation of UNESCO chairs It should be noted that UNESCO clubs named The opening of these clubs is of great importance in terms of increasing the enthusiasm of young people for creative and research activities, increasing their knowledge about the cultural values and traditions of their country.

The work of UNESCO clubs helps to broaden the horizons of students and improve the experience of learning foreign languages. Clubs coordinate work on the implementation of the state policy on youth. According to the approved work plans, training sessions, scientific consultations, competitions and exhibitions are organized.

The creation of UNESCO chairs will help educate young people based on global and national values, increase their knowledge of environmental and environmental protection issues, and develop their ecological culture. These departments will not be ordinary departments, but large-scale international study centers. Their educational work is different in content and form from the usual work of higher education institutions. Also, these departments will play an important role in the exchange of experience and information on the whole range of problems related to higher education and scientific development.

The establishment of UNESCO chairs in higher educational institutions of the country is of particular importance in this year, when the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's cooperation with UNESCO is celebrated.
